Objective

As the pace of change in healthcare continues to accelerate, managers must be leaders, adept and equipped at navigating the dynamic environment of healthcare, even during a crisis. The course Hospital Management: The Simulation provides the unique opportunity of experiencing the challenges faced by the executive leadership in making strategic decisions in a competitive hospital environment through a realistic team exercise that effectively simulates the complexity and intensity of the today’s evolving healthcare environment, especially in times of crisis.

This program is a one-of-a-kind simulation with high educational value, designed by the prestigious Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University and complemented by SDA Bocconi with additional teaching approaches. The objective is to offer a comprehensive strategic exercise for those in healthcare leadership to test and strengthen their managerial and organizational skills and competencies. In the simulation, participants who have been placed in teams will have to analyze their institution’s overall strategic direction and make the key decisions which are instrumental to its successful operation. The simulation will cover all the critical elements that influence operational outcomes in hospitals: mission/vision, service line mix, capacity, investment in quality, patient/payer mix, marketing, staffing, financial structure as well as telehealth and community initiatives. The program provides a way to learn how to menage and use data effectively for strategic decision-making. Over the course of a few days, participants will interact and acquire operational skills that can be immediately applied within their company and context, interacting with educators from prominent American and European business schools.
