Franco Gabrielli is a Professor of Practice in Public Management at SDA Bocconi School of Management. He served as the Undersecretary of State at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, with delegated authority for the security of the Republic.
Throughout his career, he has held top positions in the fields of security, safety, and intelligence. He joined the State Police in 1985 and distinguished himself with extraordinary merits, eventually becoming the Director of the Central Antiterrorism Service in 2005, Director of SISDE in 2006, and from 2007, Director of AISI, becoming its first Director following the 2007 reform of the services.
In 2009, the Council of Ministers appointed him Prefect of L'Aquila and Deputy Vice-Commissioner for the earthquake emergency. In that role, he also managed the security for the G8 Summit. In November 2010, he assumed the position of Head of the Civil Protection Department and was responsible for emergencies related to the earthquake in the Po Valley in 2012, as well as, as Government-appointed Commissioner, the operations for the recovery and safety of the Costa Concordia. In 2015, he was appointed Prefect of Rome, and in 2016, Chief of Police and Director-General of Public Security.
He has been awarded the title of Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell’Ordine al Merito of the Italian Repubblic.
