The significant changes we have witnessed in recent years have reshaped the risk management paradigm, bringing geopolitical and regulatory aspects to the forefront of leaders' agendas. This is why SDA Bocconi School of Management, in collaboration with the Florence School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute, has launched its first geopolitics program, “Global Risk Management”.
Launched yesterday at SDA Bocconi’s Rome campus, the program is directed by by Carlo Altomonte, Associate Dean for Stakeholder Engagement Programs and Director of the PNRR Lab at SDA Bocconi School of Management, and Tommaso Nannicini, full-time Professor and Chair in Political Economy at the European University Institute.
The executive training program, divided into four sections, combines theoretical and practical training through case studies, interactive workshops and direct engagement with internationally renowned academics and top business representatives. Among them are Nouriel Roubini (Professor Emeritus, Stern School of Business, New York University), Sylvie Goulard (Professor of Practice in Global Affairs and Geopolitics, SDA Bocconi School of Management), Catherine de Vries (Professor of Political Science, Bocconi University), and Carlo Ferraresi (Chief Risk Officer, Generali Group).
As part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the global geopolitical context and the nuances of political and regulatory risk, considering the digital and energy transition alongside recent political developments. Additionally, they will explore economic policy-making processes and their impact at both global and national levels, and finally, they will analyze emerging political trends and the most advanced strategic and management approaches to adopt in this new and changing scenario.
“We’ve just launched an innovative program that addresses one of the most pressing needs of business leaders,” says Carlo Altomonte. “The significant changes we have witnessed in recent years have reshaped the risk management paradigm, bringing geopolitical and regulatory aspects to the forefront of leaders' agendas. In this context, our course stands out for its ability to combine a deep analysis of the geopolitical and regulatory framework with the strategic and business dimension, leveraging the expertise of top-level faculty and speakers to provide the skills and tools necessary to navigate an uncertain and complex global environment.”
“The Global Risk Management Program fully embodies the spirit of our School of Management, which combines the value of knowledge with the principles of social sustainability and sustainable growth,” says Dean Stefano Caselli. “Managing geopolitical and regulatory risk is now a crucial element in the long-term development of companies, and with this new course, we want to support organizations and institutions in their continuous improvement and in opening new growth perspectives.”
“In today's politicized global economy, politics is making a comeback. From democracies to autocracies, political choices and shocks are now the force driving markets, innovation, social preferences, and value chains,” explains Tommaso Nannicini. “No business strategy can afford to ignore political risk. To succeed, companies must integrate the political dimension into their core strategy.”
