Leadership and teamwork: SDA Bocconi Sailing Club triumphs at Global MBA Trophy.

With an impressive demonstration of skill and teamwork, the SDA Bocconi Sailing Club, one of the activities enriching the Full-time MBA experience by directly involving students on campus as well as alumni passionate about sailing, recently claimed first place at the London Business School's Global MBA Trophy, held in the historic port of Mikrolimano in Piraeus, Greece. This victory not only showcased the exceptional abilities of our sailors but also highlighted the broader mission of the club: to combine individual excellence with the synergies of teamwork, contributing, through the sports metaphor, to shaping impeccable leaders who excel in technical and academic preparation and possess the leadership skills necessary to navigate their teams through turbulent waters.

This year's regatta saw the participation of over 200 alumni and students from the world's top business schools, all competing for the prestigious trophy. The day featured four races organized by two committees from the Yacht Club of Greece.

The SDA Bocconi team, including dedicated alumni Leonard Liscio and Riccardo Picca under the expert leadership of Gianpiero Menza, demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic acumen, navigating through the races with placements of 4th, 2nd, 3rd, and finally 1st to win the trophy in the decisive race by three points against formidable opponents, including last year’s champions and strong contenders from London Business School and Graduate School of Management at Politecnico di Milano.

This victory is a source of pride for the SDA Bocconi community and the Full-time MBA program, going beyond the excitement of the regatta itself. It embodies the spirit of what the Sailing Club and all student clubs at SDA Bocconi aim to achieve: applying classroom theories to real-world contexts and cultivating a network of students, faculty, alumni, and partners that helps build long-term personal and professional connections.

The twelve clubs at SDA Bocconi offer our master's community valuable opportunities to learn from peers, gain professional experience, and engage in impactful social activities. They also provide an excellent way to channel creativity and apply classroom content to real professional situations through projects and networking events, featuring esteemed speakers, inspirational leaders, and top executives from major national and international companies. Divided into three categories—Professional, Social Impact, and Sports & Leisure—and managed by MBA candidates, these clubs encourage participants to propose initiatives, fostering teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.

The SDA Bocconi Sailing Club is a prime example of how sportsmanship and a passion for sailing can shape future business leaders. Since its inception in 2001, the Club has provided a unique platform to strengthen the sense of belonging to the MBA program and share a collective passion for sailing.

The Full-time MBA at SDA Bocconi is increasingly recognized globally for its curriculum deeply inspired by the principles of responsible leadership and serves as a true catalyst for the careers of its students. The program's scientific rigor, innovative teaching methods, and the academic research impact of its Faculty have recently led to an unprecedented achievement: third place worldwide and second in Europe in the Financial Times ranking.
