The FIFA Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport (FIFA Master) ranks 1st in Europe and 4th in the world in the SportBusiness Post-Graduate courses in Sport Management ranking, for the sixth year in a row and for the tenth time in its history (an absolute record among all programs). SportBusiness is the leading international provider of information, data, analysis and consulting for the sports system.

The FIFA Master is a program organized by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in collaboration with SDA Bocconi and two other universities - the De Montfort University in Leicester (UK) and the University of Neuchatel (CH) to promote management-based education in the world of sport. Being top of the ranking non-stop since 2017 is a great achievement and honor for one of SDA Bocconi Sport Knowledge Center‘s most important courses.

The criteria that SportBusiness used to establish the ranking include post-graduation career, student satisfaction, diversity among course participants, analysis of networking opportunities, and partnerships between the various universities.

The Master’s program - now in its 23rd edition - kicked off last September 20 in Leicester with 27 students from all over the world. It is a landmark in postgraduate education for those who wish to pursue a career in sports at an international level. Its Management Module takes place at SDA Bocconi from January to March every year and includes the following courses: Foundations of Sport Management, Sport HR & People Management, Sport Finance, Sport Sustainability, Sport Strategic Planning, Sport Marketing, Sport Technology and Sport Event Management.

The Management Module’s Scientific Director and head of SDA Bocconi’s Sport Knowledge Center Dino Ruta comments on this achievement: “The FIFA Master is a successful program thanks to its international all-round vision of sport and thanks to a perfect interaction between academic and experiential components. It is a benchmark for the development of managerial skills in sports because of the absolute quality of the sessions with the Master’s faculty and also because of the opportunity to meet executives and athletes from the world’s leading sports institutions. FIFA Master’s alumni are now more than 600, from more than 120 countries, proof of the strong impact this program has had on the sports ecosystem and its international development.”

“To remain successful for more than 20 years has simultaneously required a clear focus on the identity of our course and an open approach to change,” CIES director Denis Oswald says. “Since we operate as a bridge between higher education and the sports industry, we must keep up-to-date with both worlds. This means observing how each sector operates and evolves, taking note of both good and bad practices, and trying to apply that in how and what we teach.”

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) is an independent study center located in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. It was created in 1995 as a Foundation between the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the University of Neuchâtel, and the City and State of Neuchâtel.

Applications are currently open for the 24th (2023-2024) Edition of the Master’s program, with the deadline on January 13 2023. You can apply at this link.

SDA Bocconi is proud to be the founder of a global educational project such as the FIFA Master’s, which is a landmark for sports managers to develop and grow and a generator of positive impacts on its students’ lives, constantly contributing to the development of the international sports system.
