International Culture Stops-over at SDA Bocconi

An exceptional guest for the inauguration of the third edition of the Master in Arts Management and Administration (MAMA) to be held on Friday, 29 September: the world-class culture ambassador Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, will attend the event.

UNESCO represents a reference point for practitioners and cultural managers, as it is the highest institution for the protection and conservation of cultural heritage worldwide. UNESCO has become the essential ‘soft power’ actor – brokering knowledge and crafting innovative policies to promote the centrality of education, the sciences, culture, and communication/information as global public goods. Ms. Bokova’s intervention will highlight the important role UNESCO has played in fostering development and ensuring peace through a discussion about her mandates and actions taken in order to ensure effective implementation of the UNESCO mission.
As Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova has always striven for a better quality of education for all, for gender equality, and for protection of the world’s cultural heritage as a humanitarian imperative. She actively promotes culture as a driver for development, along with science diplomacy and cooperation. She also spearheads global awareness and campaigns to counter youth radicalization and prevent violent extremism, hate speech and discrimination, starting with action through education.

MAMA aim to support artistic innovation and cultural development worldwide, by strengthening the leadership and management skills required for arts organizations to thrive. Irina Bokova is an example of the high-caliber guest speakers that participants can meet at MAMA.
The Master’s inauguration will also be an opportunity to celebrate the traditional violin craftsmanship in Cremona which has been inscribed in the intangible cultural heritage list of UNESCO since 2012 thanks to its traditional process of fashioning and restoring violins, violas, cellos and contrabasses. A Stradivari violin, Lam ex Scotland University 1734, currently exposed at Museo del Violino in Cremona and owned by the American collector Sau-Wing Lam, will be used for a short performance by Giuseppe Gibboni, an outstanding violinist from Centro di Musicologia Walter Stauffer.
