Salvatore Pedullà joined SDA Bocconi School of Management as an Academic Fellow in the Department of Economics, Politics and Decision Sciences.
For the past 23 years, he has served with the United Nations in sensitive field missions in fragile states and conflict countries in the Middle East, gaining a broad and diverse range of experience in conflict mediation and international negotiations, humanitarian diplomacy, inclusion strategies, and policy advocacy.
He is currently a senior political adviser in the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Syria (OSE-Syria), where he established and led the Civil Society Support Room (cssrweb.org). This innovative inclusion platform has made it possible for Syrian civil society actors to become an integral component of the mediation process facilitated by the UN. At OSE-Syria, he also led the Office's humanitarian diplomacy as acting Senior Humanitarian Adviser to the Special Envoy and Chairperson of the Humanitarian Task Force of the International Syria Support, a forum of 24 member states and regional organizations dedicated to broadening humanitarian access to civilians in need across Syria.
Salvatore previously served as senior regional adviser to the UNRWA Commissioner-General based in Amman, Jordan; as deputy head of the UN Liaison Office in Tehran, Iran; as special assistant and coordination adviser to the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon; as UN adviser to the Iraqi Minister of Planning and Deputy Prime Minister in Baghdad. Before joining the UN, he conducted field missions across Central and Latin America for the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, focusing on poverty and social impact analysis of major structural reforms.
Salvatore has obtained a Master's degree in Social Anthropology and Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), a Laurea in International and Diplomatic Relations (with a focus on International Economic Relations) from the School of Diplomacy at the Gorizia campus of the University of Trieste in Italy and a Joint-Hons Bachelor's degree in European Studies (Public Policy) from the LSE, King's College London and the Institute of Political Studies of Paris (Sciences Po). Salvatore is also an Executive Global Fellow at the Geneva Center for Security Policy.
