Gianluigi Castelli is an Associate Professor of Practice of Information Systems at SDA Bocconi School of Management.
At SDA Bocconi, he is the Director of the DEVO Lab (Digital Enterprise Value and Organization Laboratory). He has led large technology research projects (software) within the framework of EC funded programs (OMI). He has led work groups drafting the ICT strategic guidelines for major European Institutions.
His research activities focus on information systems, ICT transformation, digital transformation and information technology and the management of complex organizations .
He is the author of two books on programming and the author of more than 30 papers on software development methodologies, programming languages, compilers and operating system design and digital transformation. He has been CIO for large multinational companies in Italy and abroad (Infostrada, Fiat, Vodafone, Eni and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane). He has received the following awards: European Commission Information Technology European Award ITEA’95 (1995); EUCIP Best Italian CIO (2009); Oracle Excellence Award – CIO of the Year EMEA (2013).Currently he is Chairman of the Board of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and Chairman of the Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer (UIC).
In April 2020 he was appointed, by decree, expert to support the creation of the National Strategic Pole (NSP) by the Minister for Technological Innovation and Digitization.
Gianluigi earned a degree in Physics, with a specialization in Cybernetics from the Università degli Studi di Milano. His hobbies include collecting classic cars and motorcycles and sailing.
