Management control systems and tools belong to the management function and toolkit. Management control sits between strategy elaboration and operative management and it’s tightly linked to them. It focuses on the implementation of the strategy and the attainment of the goals The management control function assists managers to decide on the optimum allocation of resources, to guarantee quantity and quality standards of services provided, to monitor customers’ expectations and needs. Management control tools help to influence the behaviour of people in organizations. Arts organizations mission and strategies give the management control system a particular perspective as it is designed, implemented and used in a context where resources are scarce and prices do not represent the value of the service; where services provided are multifaceted and differentiated; where performances are multidimensional and goals (and success) are not easily definable and attainable.

• What’s the role of performance measurement systems (PMSs) in artistic and cultural organizations (ACOs)?
• Financial and non-financial perspective: which one is more relevant in the cultural sector?
