How does something become a classic? By featuring new ideas, solutions which are adapted to circumstances, rigorous methods, and by being around for quite a while. That’s exactly how SDA Bocconi’s Marco Sampietro, Anna Canato and Ferdinando Pennarola’s Project Management Tiscali case, the fourth in a series, has been included in the Classic Case Collection, acknowledging case studies that are at least 10 years old and among the best sellers in the last 5 years.
Published in 2006 on well-known case studies portal The Case Centre, our case was Best Selling Case in 2009 and 2010 in the “Knowledge, Information and Communication Systems Management” category. After being discussed in 21 universities and business schools in 14 countries, it is now accounted among the most interesting and useful corporate case studies.
Tiscali case D is one in a set of four cases devoted to Tiscali’s UNIT project. After a number of acquisitions in the European market, the Sardinian telco had to merge the various IT systems, at the express request of its CEO Renato Soru and CIO Salvatore Pulvirenti. The case study especially delves into the early stages of the project and focuses on management and organizational factors, first at company headquarters in Cagliari and then across several European countries, developing over an 18-month period, from March 2001 to August 2002.
The awarding institution is The Case Centre, the top-notch British independent agency founded in 1973 and gathering over 500 organizations worldwide to share study materials and promote the case-study method at a global level.
