Institutions within the cultural and creative industries nowadays operate within an increasingly complex environment. Factors such as efficiency and performance are becoming critical for success, and this leads to a demand for a specialized and competent leadership, causing a strong professionalization trend within the sector. Technology improvements, economic instability, and the COVID-19 pandemic have made such trend even more evident, highlighting some of the main areas cultural leaders need to focus on.
Professor Andrea Rurale, Director of the Master in Arts Management and Administration (MAMA) and coordinator of the Arts & Culture Knowledge Center, is offering his point of view and insights on such topics this month, by participating as a keynote speaker to the II International Conference on Experience Economy: Museum, Event, and Tourism Management, in Perm, Russia. The focus will be on the need for cultural business management to be revised, as a result of the most recent developments in the industry.
The Conference will also feature keynote speakers from leading institutions such as the UK’s National Trust and the University of Glasgow, to address managerial challenges in fields such as heritage promotion, tourism management, and digital innovation in the arts sector.
“New ways of management must be traced and each cultural organization has to identify the models, processes, and competences that are most suitable to their specific environment” says Professor Rurale “New and improved skills in areas such as fundraising, digital innovation, and customer experience are and will be key for success in the creative industries”.
