DBA's crowning achievements of the year: the program enters EDAMBA international network and celebrates the thesis defense of the first cohort of students

DBA, Doctorate in Business Administration

SDA Bocconi hits two  major targets in 2020: Its DBA - Doctorate in Business Administration is now a member of EDAMBA - European Doctoral Programmes Association in Management & Business Administration, the prestigious international network currently operating in 28 countries with a mission to develop common ideas, values, evaluation criteria, standards and practices to assess and enhance the quality of doctoral education, through the exchange of experiences and cooperation among its academic actors.

Moreover, on December 15, the first cohort of DBA students,  after three years of hard and passionate work, completed their course of study by successfully defending their theses, with an in-person commission listening to online dissertation defenses.

As SDA Bocconi Dean, Giuseppe Soda, points out, "building bridges between research and practice is one of the missions of our School. Thanks to DBA and to the project of publishing the best dissertation written by the participants, we have made yet another step forward and are closer to reach such an ambitious goal."

From corporate to academia, from operations to research. And back. The spirit of our DBA lies within this path. It’s a circular movement that brings managerial culture to a scientific level, so as to contribute to the general progress of corporate governance practices, and they in turn become the subject of study and of theoretical considerations. "It is a highly evolved training offer, meant for those who want to become “thought leaders”, as Fabrizio Castellucci, Director of SDA Bocconi’s DBA, defines it.

Becoming an EDAMBA member now further certifies the excellence of our DBA, on the one hand, while further engaging us in achieving the highest standards in doctoral education in the fields of management and business studies, on the other. Just 72 doctoral programs are EDAMBA members today in the world, following the 4 guidelines of EDAMBA's mission:

  • Building a worldwide network for the exchange of information and ideas among member schools.
  • Developing and improving best practices through codes of conduct of the highest order.
  • Offering a global platform to facilitate collaborative efforts in research and practice across borders.
  • Helping participating doctoral programs around the world achieve excellence by building on a European tradition of collective dialogue, while promoting doctoral supervisors, students’ and graduates’ reflections on diversity, social and humanistic aims, intellectual capacities, personal sensibilities, ethics and public responsibility.
