Demetrio Maltese is Fellow of Business Law at SDA Bocconi and Contract Professor of Commercial Law at Università Bocconi in Milan and Università degli Studi di Brescia.
At Bocconi, he has taught Commercial Law since 2019 in the Law degree program, and at the Università degli Studi di Brescia, he teaches in the Business Administration program since 2021. He has been a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard Law School, where he also served as a Fellow for the Program on Corporate Governance, and a recurring visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany. Previously, he practiced as an attorney, being registered with the Italian Bar from 2016 to 2021.
His research and professional focus centers on corporate law, with particular attention to shareholder rights, conflicts of interest, and financial market regulation. He has published in notable national and international journals and is a member of the editorial boards of The Italian Law Journal (ESI) and Rivista delle Società (Giuffré). He serves on the Scientific Committee of the "Commissione Società" of the Milan Notarial Council and the Brescia Observatory on Commercial Jurisprudence.
Demetrio holds a degree in Law, graduating with honors from the "Mediterranea" University of Reggio Calabria, with a thesis on “Corporate Social Responsibility and Joint-Stock Companies.” He also earned an LLM from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Corporate Law from Università Bocconi, where he completed a dissertation on “Shareholder Conflicts of Interest in the General Meeting of Joint-Stock Companies” under the guidance of Professor Mario Notari.
Since 2022, he is a Civil Law Notary in the Milan Notarial Council and is a founding partner of FMNotai, with offices in Milan and Pessano con Bornago.
