EHMA 2017 Annual Conference "Health Futures"

Bocconi University will host the EHMA "Health Futures" Annual Conference.
EHMA Annual Conference is an international knowledge sharing event, where participants from all around Europe and beyond have the opportunity to share their knowledge and explore fundamental managerial and policy issues.

Two perspectives will be considered. On the one hand, delegates will try to identify external trends in demography, technology, economy and culture and discuss what those trends mean for the demands on and organisation of our Healthcare systems in the (near) future. On the other hand, they will attempt to assess how such changes are impacting the current reform agenda and whether they are making service improvement challenging to achieve.

The GHNP, Government, Health and Not for Profit Division is honoured to guest such an influential event that brings together policy makers, health managers, health professionals, educators and heads of research programmes. Among the Keynote Speakers:

Josep Figueras - Director of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and Head of the WHO European Centre on Health Policy in Brussels;
Jan Kimpen - MD, Chief Medical Officer at Philips; and
Sir David Sloman - Chief Executive Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

The workshops below will be run in parallel with the conference and Italian delegates are invited to participate with a special daily rate, which allow them to join the conference sessions as well as the workshops.

In passato, la realizzazione di investimenti con capitali privati ha consentito di rinnovare la rete sanitaria di alcune regioni. Tuttavia, il modello adottato ha mostrato alcuni punti critici. L'esperienza, le maggiori competenze e un contesto normativo più chiaro offrono ora la possibilità di utilizzare i capitali e le competenze private nell'ambito dei contratti di Partnership Pubblico Privato (PPP) più sostenibili.
Il workshop rappresenta dunque un momento fondamentale per riflettere sulle esperienze passate, sulle modalità di utilizzo delle PPP per la nuova pipeline di investimenti edili e tecnologici nel settore sanitario e sulla necessità di una robusta policy nazionale e regionale per attirare i migliori operatori industriali e finanziari nell'ambito di un nuovo approccio alle PPP. 4. MANAGING THE HOSPITAL OF THE FUTURE - Round Table

The importance of health technology assessment (HTA) as a tool to govern the introduction and diffusion of healthcare technologies has grown significantly in the last decades at a time of shortage for public finance. In fact, HTA has developed so fast to appear nowadays as a globally recognized process aiming to maximize the social value of health technologies while assuring they are worth- while in terms of consumed resources. Many countries are supporting these efforts by investing resources in HTA and associated evaluation activities.

The growing trend in the use of HTA in policy making emphasizes the necessity to investigate how HTA activities are institutionalised in different jurisdictions. Within EU context, limited number of studies analysed the role of HTA in decentralised systems and showed that increasing autonomy assigned to the lower levels of government usually fosters the development of HTA programmes and activities at the regional level leaving the role of national level HTA bodies rather ambiguous. Furthermore, in some countries, the lack of a centralized HTA system has led to the fragmentation, overlap, and haphazard diffusion of new technology along with wasted resources.

The aims of this workshop is to discuss the state of the HTA programmes in Europe and to discuss consequences of a multi-level structure of HTA in highly regionalised healthcare systems. The proposed session builds on the current debate on the challenges to the coordination of HTA activities across different levels.
