Driving in the future: the challenges of the automotive industry

The Dossier of the fourth edition of Economia&Management in 2023 is dedicated to the automotive sector, for years one of the flagships of Italian industry. However, a series of crises since the 1990s, culminating in the recent creation of the Stellantis Group (the result of the merger between FCA and PSA), seems to have eclipsed the successes of a now distant past. Is this really the case? The various challenges facing the industry, from the ecological transition to Industry 4.0, can create further difficulties or turn into opportunities for diversified production that can reposition the Italian automotive industry in an increasingly competitive landscape.

Fabrizio Perrettiā€™s Editorial focuses on the concept of change, whether effected or endured, which affects almost all spheres of existence, from labor to social movements to climate. It is precisely with regard to the consequences of climate change that we need to adopt a conscious attitude, recognizing the uncertainty of the future but without giving in to pessimism.

The focus dedicated to the world of sports, to the tangible and intangible values that represent a set of activities not only physical but also related to business, is accompanied by Dino Rutaā€™s podcast, which illustrates the dynamics of the two main assets of this industry: athletes and the evolution of their careers, from the sporting discipline to the managerial spheres, and sporting events, with their legacy and media resonance.
